Dervla Murphy was a travel writer and a cyclist who used her cycling experiences to write many excellent books on her travels. Dervla was an only child as her parents were advised not to have more children due to her mother's condition which was rheumatoid arthritis. So Dervla had the advantage of no distractions to lead her from her goal, which was travelling. Dervla has travelled to many, many places, mostly alone. Her most regarded trip was to India from Ireland on a bicycle, which she wrote about in Full Tilt.
