Gemmell was balancing the two jobs of journalism and author from the time of the success of Legend.

After Waylander, Gemmell was sacked from his journalism for using the names of his colleagues in his book. He never looked back.

Gemmell was to write over thirty books before his untimely death in 2006.

The Ghost King is the first novel in his Stones of Power series.

Stormrider is the fourth novel in the Rigante series.
