Augusten Burroughs is an American author who is best known for his 'memoir' Running with Scissors.
Burroughs was born on October 23, 1965 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Burroughs's home life was unstable, his parents divorces when Augusten was 13.
By this time his older brother of eight years, John Elder had already left home.
His mother decided to send Augusten into the care of a psychiatrist, Dr. Rodolph Harvey Turcotte, wher Augusten was to stay.
As they say, the rest is history, at least according to Augusten Burroughs.

Augusten Burroughs Running with Scissors
This is the account of an ordinary boy's survival under the most extraordinary circumstances.
His mother gave him away to be raised by her unorthodox psychiatrist, who bore a striking resemblance to Santa Claus.
So at twelve, Burroughs found himself with the psychiatrist's bizarre family and befriending a paedophile who lived in the shed.
This is the funny, harrowing account of an ordinary boy's survival under the most extraordinary circumstances
