Aldous Huxley was born in Godalming in the UK in July 1894. He died in Los Angeles on November 22nd, 1963, the same day as C S Lewis died and John F Kennedy was assassinated. Aldous Huxley was born into a very famous family. His mother, Julia was the niece of Matthew Arnold. He was the grandson of Thomas Henry Huxley, the renowned zoologist. His brothers, Julian and Andrew, also became eminent biologists. Huxley taught at Eton for a year in order to acrue some money. One of his pupils was Eric Blair (George Orwell). Huxley wrote social satires for the most part, Beginning With the Letter his first novel, Crome Yellow. He would write about high society as if they were caricatures, often making humorous observations at their expense. Brave New World was a different sort of novel. It was a break from his normal offerings. Here he went for the throat, instead of shimmying around the edges. Huxley was brilliant at both methods, this one was effective because it was different.
Book Review:This is specialisation brought to its frightening conclusion. People are selected by their intelligence level and live according to their 'class'.

Book Review:Urbain Grandier was accused of gross depravity in being in league with the devil and seducing all the nuns in one convent. He was tortured and burned at the stake. This book is a glimpse of what he may have been like.
